Snack cucumber is bought as a snack, in a pack, against other snacks. What it brings to that shelf is water, low energy, a little potassium and vitamin C, and nothing to do between opening the pack and eating it.
It is also the only cucumber format the buyer inspects fruit by fruit. The punnet is transparent, and every fruit in it is visible before the pack is lifted. Condition is not discovered at home. It decides whether the pack is taken or left behind.
That puts the supply line in the shop window. Fruit brought a long way arrives having given up water through several days of handling, and it shows in the pack rather than in a weight. A crop grown near the people who eat it goes from plant to punnet inside days, and every fruit in the pack reaches the shelf firm.

It is a convenience product, and its price reflects the pack rather than the kilogram. Uniformity matters more here than in any other cucumber type, because the fruit is visible individually in a transparent pack.
What the crop needs
The crop is grown on substrate and carried on a high wire. The cycle is short or set by the project rather than fixed, which makes it a candidate for slotting between other crops in a house. Very frequent picking is the defining operational demand: the fruit is small, reaches grade fast, and passes out of specification quickly if it is left.
