Portrait of Timo Raus

Timo Raus is a co-founder of DutchGreenhouses and the specialist behind its educational content on high-tech greenhouse horticulture. He leads the company’s business development and explains how modern greenhouses and controlled environment agriculture (CEA) actually work — in the articles and glossary he writes for this site, and on his YouTube channel, @timo-raus.

Born in Naaldwijk in 1993 and raised for part of his childhood in Papua New Guinea before returning to the Westland at eleven, Timo grew up moving between very different worlds — an upbringing that shaped his adaptability and his eye for how growing translates across climates. His professional turning point came managing a high-tech greenhouse project in Dubai, where unforgiving standards sharpened how he thinks about design, climate control and turnkey delivery.

With a financial background from Erasmus University Rotterdam, Timo shapes the commercial side of DutchGreenhouses’ turnkey projects worldwide — from feasibility and financing to design briefs and procurement. He works at the intersection of traditional Dutch growing craftsmanship and what comes next: AI-assisted cultivation, decentralized food production and net-zero horticulture.

He co-founded DutchGreenhouses in 2017 with his father, Edo Raus, a greenhouse engineer who technically reviews the company’s published content. Every article and glossary entry Timo writes is reviewed by the DutchGreenhouses engineering team, so each definition and specification reflects current practice. Timo is based in Naaldwijk, in the heart of the Westland — the “Home of Horticulture.”
